Flip Flop Girl Focus on Babette's Feet
There are films which make reference to feet and/or a foot fetish and then there are films that are completely devoted to feet which is very cool.
Thanks to Jay for making all of us aware of this gem and for all his other movie finds.
Now, what I really love about Babette's Feet is how very gentle and understated it is. That is the approach I like to take with feet. Often, less is more. This is an elegant little film, very intelligent and very honest. Here's a guy to loves feet and we get to see him sneaking looks at girls with pretty feet. But he's not just some foot freak. Harold is a lawyer and he's on a quest. He thinks he's searching for the perfect feet--but maybe he's also searching for something more.
In the end, he meets Babette who is on a search of her own!

Flip Flop Girl's Big List of Films with Footsie
The beautiful foot has made its way into some significant films. Here is a list of major motion pictures that have included some footsie in one form or another. At first, I struggled to readily recall too many movies which included feet in a provocative/sexual way. I wasn't even sure I'd find ten really good examples. Now, I have twenty to share with you. I also wasn't so sure I'd find anything past 30 years ago, let alone anything from silent films--but I have! The Merry Widow, from 1925, actually revels in the foot fetish theme but it could be lost on someone who is not aware of foot fun. I don't know when I'll get a chance to see it since it doesn't seem to be available to the public in VHS or DVD. Swept Away definitely looks interesting with the twist of the woman kissing the man's feet. A horrid remake was made with Madonna but it could be fun just to see her kissing feet. Great Catherine sounds very naughty with Peter O'Toole being forced to kiss the princess's foot and having his bare chest rubbed with her feet. And then there is perhaps the best foot film of all, without really trying too hard, The Big Lebowski. That film is a classic on so many levels.
Here is the list. I will write reviews for each film and delve into the foot-related scenes with great depth. I'll just go with the flow and see how this develops and what other issues and topics it could bring up. This is a very good start. There are certainly other films out there and some where the foot reference might be more subtle or obscure. There's one western I'm am trying to recall where the young woman is barefoot and she steps on the boots of her man to kiss him and the camera lingers on her feet. That sort of thing I think is worth exploring too. But let's see how things go. But, while still on the subject of film feet on the periphery, I'd have to say that The Thief of Bagdad, 1940, has quite a lot of barefeet to the point of being sensual. And maybe Some Like It Hot would fall under the peripheral category but when you've got Marilyn Monroe's feet coming into contact with Jack Lemmon's face, I think you've definitely crossed the line, don't you?
1. The Merry Widow 1925
2. Some Like It Hot 1959

Flip Flop Girl Goes For Beauty
I love the Glamour website where I found this and was immediately inspired. The editors for the beauty blog were proudly proclaiming their collective foot fetish! And what a great little contraption they found at Brookstone, some wild mechanical masseuse. Anyway, I love Glamour and I'd love to write for them someday!

Flip Flop Girl Flip Flops Some More with Films
Still thinking about movies with any form of footsie theme going on. I recall a few comedies but can't quite place them. I'm pretty sure that War of the Roses has a scene where Danny DeVito is in a boardroom and this girl wants to give him a foot job and he gets angry and says something like, "I haven't been into feet in years." Or am I hallucinating?
There's another movie which I'm totally blanking out on and it definitely does not have Danny DeVito in it. No, it's some character actor, a tall bald guy, and he is so enthralled with this pretty young woman that he abruptly goes down and kneels by her feet, slips off her heels, and started sucking away at her toes. The girl, I think, is a well-known actress, somebody like Kelly McGillis but not her. It's driving me nuts. Does that ring a bell for anyone? Probably early '90s. What is so strange about this is that I happen to have been at a family gathering and the television was on and it was this comedy and then, out of the blue, you have this toe-sucking scene while you have a house full of mixed company. No one really noticed or seemed to care. Maybe they didn't want to notice. I feel pretty jaded but that got my attention. I don't think it really registered with everyone in the house. I suppose that was so strange that I nearly blocked it all out of my memory but now I would like to know what movie that is!

Flip Flop Girl's Ten Best Lists: First Attempt at Film
Feet, Foot Fetishes, Flip Flops, Film. It all makes sense in the end, doesn't it? OK, your favorite Flip Flop Girl is working hard to put together a series of lists. We're going to tackle film at the moment. I'm going to keep this simple and at a rough draft, no pressure stage. I want to be able to at least name ten films right now that include some form of foot love, be it daring or subtle:
1. The Last Emperor Remember this one? I'll have to go back and date all this properly. 1985?
Steven Spielberg. One truly amazing toe-sucking scene, very decadent, between two women.
2. The Coca-Cola Kid Greta Scacci sucks on the big toe of Eric Roberts. This, btw, is probably Eric's shining moment. What happened to him?
3. From Dusk til Dawn Very blatant, very hipster scene: Tarantino sucks on Salma's toes while she's on stage in the middle of a hot performance!
4. Kill Bill The first Kill Bill, I think. Uma's toes!
5. In the Cut 2003 Michael Nuccio sucks on Meg Ryan's toes! Meg, who knew?!
6. Oh God, I'm drawing a blank. There's a couple of comedies.
7. That other comedy
8. Foreign Film goes here
9. Probably another foreign film goes here
10. Sid & Nancy Sorry guys, that's the best I can do at the moment. But I've been wanting to post something, anything to get the ball rolling!!
Don't even ask me to start on my top ten books lists! Although, I will tell you that a very interesting reference sticks in my mind in Stendahl's The Red and The Black.

Flip Flops and Howard Hughes
I was walking around, on my way to brunch, when I spotted this boy in flip flops. Cool. But then he did the most annoying thing. He was at a crosswalk and he needed to push for the light to change. Instead of just using his hand, he lifted up his leg and used his foot to press down on the button. Not sexy. Not cool. But people do this ALL the time!
Why did he lift his leg and use his foot where his hand was supposed to go? Because he was afraid of germs. Have you noticed this? People do this so often, especially young people. When did it become socially-acceptable to do this? It does look kinda weird but people do it very nonchalantly: raise leg, give button a tap or a stomp. It's gross. And it's so common that people assume that's the way to go. I know that, when I'm at one of these crosswalks, I do hesitate but end up using my hand, usually a thumb.
We have celebrity germaphobes like Kelly Ripa and Howey Mandel and all these anti-bacterial products and scare stories in the media about germs. So, it seems okay to be weird this way. I'd say this whole germ phobia thing has definitely spilled over to all of society. Notice how we're all that much more careful about touching doorknobs, especially going into a public restroom? We'll take a paper towel and use that to touch the door on the way out. Wastebaskets are now located next to these doors just for this purpose. I say there's no turning back on this one, it's part of us. Just like our collective impulse to be a bit over-sexed and prone to such wild delights as toe-sucking. So, I ask you, how can a person afraid of germs still engage in such close and intimate contact with feet that you don't know where they've been walking on? That's a good question.
I think poor Howard Hughes was way ahead of his time regarding this whole germ phobia thing. If only he had been alive in a more enlightened time, such as ours supposedly is, he probably could have functioned well enough in society: taken the right medication, continued to manage his affairs, even appeared on talk shows. It was the stigma of his obsessive compulsive disorder that drove him into hiding. For a man of such extremes, he probably could have indulged in foot sex and balanced his need to remain clean. I could see that. Who knows. I know I'm free-associating quite a bit here. So, what's my point? Well, as more and more information is available and as more things that were once stigmas or taboos join the mainsteam, it's up to us to figure out how to make the most sense out of it all.

Voyeur Nation
Flip flops, voyeurs, and me. Funny how I came across this after just posting about Marilyn Monroe and today's version of the raised skirt, best expressed by Britney Spears but also well delivered by any hottie. What I like about this site is that, as it claims, it is "guilt-free voyeurism." Apparently, the girls are asked in advance for permission to be in a video. Some of the these videos capture quite a bit of apprehension from the subjects while others are more carefree and still others appear to be born to perform. The site is called I Do Nothing All Day which gives off a little stalker vibe without the fangs. It seems harmless enough. So, it promotes being a passive mediocre observer, which is what we all lean towards, right? I don't know what a more assertive version of this would be like that would work as well. Such a version would probably look more like a vapid fraternity misogyny fest. How best to objectify us women? Passive or Aggresive or Passive-Agressive, etc? I Do Nothing All Day may be on the right track. It has a certain style and look that shows us where we are today.

Britney Spears and Flip Flops and Fresh Starts
Hello, world, it's the Flip Flop Girl sharing more of her world with you.
I will end up talking about flips flops, a fresh start to my blog, and even fit Britney Spears into the mix.
So, you'll have to tell me if you think this makes sense. I think the more risque and outspoken I've been, the more I attract boys than girls. Maybe the darker I've gotten, I've brought out the boys. And, when I've been lighter, I bring out the girls. My intention wasn't necessarily to titilate at the expense of everything else. I leave everything open. There are times I will end up exciting the reader but, for the most part, I welcome a communal spirit. I want to share my inner thoughts and feel that they are really getting out there. So far, I'd say the boys have been pretty good. I sense some lust from some of you, but I can't say that's bad. Is there too much a sense of propriety from the girls? I haven't heard from some of you in a long while. I don't want to be labeled anything. I do want to continue to speak my mind. And I do want to be taken seriously. I'm still new at this but I think I'm getting the knack of it and developing a unique view and style.
So, I want to keep mixing things up and keep picking away at the pop culture and the whole way we live our lives that brings us to a point, for instance, where we can accept so easily Britney Spears showing off her vagina in public. That, to me, is connected to my explorations. I am examining the fascination we have with flip flops and with feet, all tied up with our narcissistic/hedonistic/capitalistic selves. I want to think that many things sexual, as long as they're between consenting adults are good to bring out into the open among adults. I think a lot of things have been bubbling just below the surface. I'd go so far as to say that this latest Britney Spears incident is significant. It shows how far we've come in our desire to cross the naughty line. I just can't help but think of Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch" and the incredibly famous iconic scene of her skirt being lifted up by the steam grating below. The public went crazy over that. We couldn't get enough of Marilyn Monroe and just to imply we might catch a glimpse of something more was enough to satisfy us. Now, we get the current goddess to the masses revealing everything and we still want more, more, more.

Flip Flops and Nail Polish: Some More Thoughts
"T" was wondering what I might think of the color Bronze, particularly on his toes. Well, I think that color makes sense. Yeah, I could get turned on by that. I'd say most of the guys I've been with haven't explored nail polish, only a few. I haven't found out yet if my current boyfriend is into it but I'm guessing he'd like it. I'll have to ask him. And, before I know it, he'll be sporting all sorts of colors on his toes! He would look good with bronze polish.
I was trying to remember who is was that came up with her own line of nail polish all because she wanted to match the color of her pair of light blue flip flops and so I did a quick search and here it is. Hard Candy nail polish, such a cute name. And then she went on to create a line for men, Candy Man, also very cute, very provocative.

Does Britney have a Foot Fetish?
Well, I'll let you be the judge. Some people think this is a fake and I would agree. You can see where the video edit jumps in. But I really could see Brit having a foot fetish. It wouldn't surprise me. She has the feet for it. And this girl loves her feet. Remember her tattoo on her toe? And when she was on the Tonight Show, she spent most of her time talking about her feet and even showed them off to Jay Leno. Hmm, I guess maybe that's the video we should be watching for proof of a foot fetish.
Anyway, she is going through a lot right now and not looking her best but this girl is a superstar and she'll, well, land on her pretty feet soon enough.
Britney Spears certainly knows how to wear flip flops. She is definitely one hot flip flop girl. And she loves to go barefoot too. She's a very sensual person. I'd like to think she's also a smart person. I think she can become easily overwhelmed by all the trappings of celebrity but there's still time for her to grow and mature. I'm happy for her now that she has her freedom. Poor K-Fed, or Fed-Ex, just wasn't her soulmate. For now, Britney, just live it up with flip flops and some Red Bull and try to spend less time with Paris Hilton.

Flip Flop Girl's Lifestyle: Of Pastels, Mix and Match, Fashion
So, I will end out this week with another look at nail polish. Okay, so we were talking a bit about pastels. Love them. They do have their place on my toes. A good time to get those pastels out, I think, is when you're in the mood for a summer dress, something very soft and gentle. It might be nice to mix and match colors and tones. Say, put a peach polish on your toes and offset that with a bold orange flip flop. Or how about a powder puff blue sitting on a dark Old Navy flip flop? Hmmm, color matches: I could easily go with a red polish on a black flip flop. Or a dark blue polish on a light blue flip flop.
Yeah, this could get interesting. What color comes up the most, would you think, on the runway? My guess is red. Maybe black. Or do the girls wear whatever? I think there's only one color that they wouldn't just happen to wear and not think about and that is White. You just don't wear that color. It wears you. I don't think I am really into White. But, then again, I am a big fan of the French Pedicure. I think that's just the right amount of White. That white on the very tips of the toes is tres chic!
Green. I just thought it. Isn't that a color up there with White that you really don't want to wear? Well, depends. It is a refreshing alternative. You know, I saw this guy walking around with green nail polish on his toes and it looked great. It really did. Every now and then, I'll see a guy with polish, sometimes the hands--more often the feet. Often black. But sometimes blue or green. And I didn't give much thought to whether the guy was gay or straight. In fact, I think a lot of straight guys are getting into the nail polish thing. Very fashionable, don't you think? Just a theory: guys, whether gay or straight, tend towards the more masculine and/or neutral colors. It just seems that pink on a guy is overkill but, if you're really up for it, go for it!

Flip Flop Girl's Lifestyle: More Thoughts on Nail Polish.
Jay's recent kind post made me think more about nail polish. He is right that the soft colors are very gentle and compliment a girl's feet. If you have a foot fetish or if you love flip flops, whatever, there's always more you can say about the subject of nail polish. Let's see, I just had a mocha and feel inspired. What can I say, I love pastels too but I think the light colors don't always work well. Say you have a nice tan, all the way down to your toes, how could you not want a bold color to set it off?
I was just thinking about wearing nail polish and nothing else. That is, of course, very very sexy. You know, it makes me feel all the more naked dancing around with red nail polish on my hands and feet. Oh, you know what, purple would be killer too. Purple. How could I neglect that royal color. It would have to be a deep purple too. I just thought of it. I have the New York Times Fashion supplement laying around and on the cover is Penelope Cruz with purple nail polish. Now, she is a girl who can really work it. So, for being totally naked, maybe deep purple is now looking like my best bet at the moment.

Flip Flop Girl's Lifestyle: Nail Polish, something to add to your Flip Flops
Flips Flops are my passion and everything else connected to them. For instance, nail polish. One of the sexiest ways to wear flip flops is totally bare, no polish at all. This is true. But even sexier is to add that extra color to the flip flop.
So, some initial thoughts on nail polish. Red is the most popular for obvious reasons: it signifies sex and it shows off your toes. If you're going to go to the trouble of going to a spa, most times you end up going red. Not a bad choice since there seems to be an endless variety of reds out there from brick red (a personal favorite) to candy apple red (another favorite) to perhaps a more demure rose red (okay, I love them all.) There are also the other colors than stand in for red's showy quality which are the darker blues, silver, and, of course, black, which is in a whole other sexy universe to itself.
If not red, you will see us daring girls sporting a navy blue or darker. Red and Blue are primary colors and they are demanding attention. The only other primary color, Yellow, certainly demands attention but it's just not as popular since it is harsh in ways that are not easy to deal with. I will use it now and then but you're basically calling attention to yourself and not much more. Anyway, back to Blue. I love that color too. Very refreshing and sexy and seems to have all the qualities of red but holds back a little. Light blue is perhaps too cool. I love it all the same but I use it more as a surprise alternative to mix things up. In the same way I would use lighter colors. Light colors are wonderful in a totally different way with the exception of Pink. Pink is a whole other story. It is so sexy that it is not just a light color but the only truly dominant light color. But I digress.
In recent years, Silver has seemed to be the new Red. Have you noticed that? We seemed to know that Red was always going to be around and we just wanted to see if we could push the envelope. There have been a lot, perhaps too many, metallics and I just don't see those as working all that well. The same with glittery polish. You really want something that is a solid coat of sexy paint and Silver does it very well. Gold not so much because it is over the top. It's those darker blunt colors that look most alluring and simply, from a purely aesthetic point of view, look best on the feet, and hands too. Yes, the color Silver is simple elegance that goes well with just about any outfit and skin tone.
Then there is Black which shares the extreme quality of Red and the Bad Girl vibe. Total Bad Girl! It is, without a doubt, the color of the rebel. It is the color of the fashionista. It is the color of the bohemian and the artist. The color that is worn with confidence. It actually goes well with most outfits and skin tones but in a loud and bold way that you can't avoid. No, you must embrace the Loud Black. It is agressive. It is actually the only color that a boy would not think twice about using on his own nails! Something very basic about black. Instant goth, right? Well, it won't work if you're not up for it.
Whatever your outfit, whatever flip flops you like to wear, whatever your skin tone, you can't go wrong with the basics: red, blue, silver, black, and also pink.

Kate has a Foot Fetish
Or so they say. She is definitely into her Jimmy Choo's. That is an uplifting thought. Kate is a pair of very elegant shoes. Not just pumps. Jimmy does flip flops too selling at $300 a pop. And I don't own a pair! I am going to hint to my new beau that he get me some. He's a student but he's not a poor student. And I don't necessarily want flip flops for Christmas. Pumps would be great. But decadently expensive flip flops do have a great appeal.
